Amidst Uttarakhand’s extensive efforts to elevate its tourism landscape, a new cruise service on the pristine waters of Tehri Lake is set to become a major attraction. This state-of-the-art cruise ship not only promises a scenic retreat for tourists but also aims to uplift the local economy and promote village tourism.
Developed at a cost of ₹8 crore under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, the cruise offers a one-of-a-kind travel experience. With 12 modern rooms, a restaurant, and well-equipped facilities, it ensures a luxurious stay for visitors. The boat’s design, inspired by the traditional architecture of mountain homes, adds a cultural touch to the experience.
Operating between Koti Colony and the iconic Dobra-Chanthi Bridge, the cruise provides breath-taking views of the surrounding valleys and serene waters. Currently in its trial phase, the service is expected to start bookings soon, adding a fresh dimension to Uttarakhand’s tourism offerings.
Beyond the cruise, Tehri Lake is a hub for adventure enthusiasts. Tourists can indulge in activities like parasailing, speed boating, jet skiing, and other water sports, making it a comprehensive destination for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike.
Vijay Bisht, the cruise manager, described the initiative as an “unprecedented move” to rejuvenate tourism in the region. He highlighted its potential to promote village tourism and provide new opportunities for local communities.
“This cruise ship is a step forward in enhancing the tourism potential of Tehri Dam, the tallest dam in the world,” said Bisht. “It not only attracts tourists but also brings hope to the locals who were disheartened after the dam’s construction. We aim to integrate village tourism into this initiative, ensuring that the benefits reach the grassroots level.”
With the launch of this cruise service, Uttarakhand continues to position itself as a premier destination for leisure and adventure tourism. Combined with other initiatives like promoting underrated destinations, improving infrastructure, and offering discounts on accommodations, the state is on a mission to redefine travel experiences.
As the Tehri Lake cruise sets sail, it marks a new chapter in Uttarakhand’s tourism story—one that blends modern amenities with cultural heritage, offering unforgettable memories for visitors while fostering sustainable growth for local communities.
