Tourism Budget 2025: India charts a bold path to global leadership

By Netpal Travel Bureau
In an innovative move to redefine India’s place on the global tourism
map, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the Union Budget
2025-2026 with a strong drive on the travel and tourism sector. The
budget outlines a future-forward roadmap centred on infrastructure
development, sustainability, digital transformation, and inclusive
growth.
“Tourism is not just a sector, it is a powerful engine of economic growth,
job creation, and cultural diplomacy. This budget lays a solid foundation
for India to emerge as a global tourism hub,” said Sitharaman in her
Budget speech.
The budget significantly increases allocations for tourism-related
initiatives, signalling the government’s commitment to revitalizing the
sector post-pandemic. Domestic campaigns like ‘Dekho Apna Desh’ are
being expanded to foster regional travel, while international marketing
efforts are being scaled up to attract global visitors.
A major piece of the allocation is directed toward modernizing
infrastructure. Airports are being upgraded, new railway corridors are
being developed, and road connectivity to major tourist destinations is
being enhanced. These projects are aligned with the Smart Cities Mission
to ensure seamless, tech-enabled travel experiences.
The government is stepping up restoration of UNESCO heritage sites
and launching targeted campaigns around India’s spiritual circuits under
schemes like PRASAD. Cultural festivals, fairs, and heritage walks will
also receive funding to highlight India’s rich and diverse traditions.
The budget places sustainability at the core of its tourism agenda.
Policies are being introduced to promote eco-tourism in wildlife
reserves, coastal belts, and rural landscapes. Financial incentives for
electric vehicles, green hotels, and homestays aim to empower local
communities while reducing the carbon footprint of tourism.
The digital transformation of the sector is gaining momentum.
Investments in AI-powered travel apps, contactless payment systems,
and real-time travel assistance tools are designed to enhance traveler

convenience and safety. The introduction of smart tourism features will
provide visitors with curated experiences and on-the-go support.
As the sector prepares for an era of transformation, the 2025 budget
signals a long-term strategic vision—one that combines India’s cultural
richness with cutting-edge innovation and global standards. If effectively
implemented, these initiatives could see India rise as one of the world’s
most sought-after travel destinations in the years to come.
